What is hot stamping?
Hot stamping creates a precise application of foil with a dimensional feel on the paper. It utilizes a die on our stamping machine mounted above the flexo press. The die or “stamp” is heated so as the sheet of foil runs through, the pressure from the stamp fixes the foil to the paper surface.
Hammer Packaging uses the 10-color 17” P7 Mark Andy flexo press for all of its hot stamping needs.
When should it be used?
If you are looking for a premium, raised look then there is no need to look further. Hot stamping is the perfect fit when you want to emphasize any fine lines or type on a paper label. It is the perfect solution to emphasize an intricate emblem, design or logo and is commonly used on wine, spirit and beer labels.
What is the difference between this and cold foil?
Hot stamping and cold foil are both ways to apply foil to labels, but they provide different outcomes. Hot stamping is best for more intricate designs, whereas cold foil is an ideal solution for large areas of foil to be applied. While hot stamping can be applied to rough or flat paper surfaces and creates a dimensional feel, a cold foil is most successful on a smooth film or paper surface and lays flat on the substrate.
